Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ziti pasta
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil, chopped for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat and Prep: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the Pasta: Cook the ziti according to package instructions until just al dente; drain and set aside.
  • Brown the Beef: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent.
  • Simmer the Sauce: Stir in the marinara sauce and oregano into the beef mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Mix Pasta and Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti with the ricotta cheese and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  • Layer the Ingredients: In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half the pasta mixture, half the meat sauce, and half the mozzarella cheese. Repeat to use all ingredients.
  • Bake: Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top, cover with foil, and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10 minutes.
  • Garnish and Serve: Garnish the baked ziti with freshly chopped basil before serving.
