For the Potatoes
- 3 lbs Yukon Gold or Russet Potatoes Yukon Golds provide a creamy texture
For the Cream Mixture
- 1 cup Heavy Cream Adds richness
- 1 cup Whole Milk Balances the heavy cream
- 4 cloves Garlic (minced) Adjust based on taste preference
- 4 tablespoons Butter (melted) Also used for greasing the dish
- Salt to taste
- Black Pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme (optional) Fresh thyme can be used for more flavor
For the Topping
- 1.5 cups Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese Avoid pre-shredded for better melting
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Parsley (garnish) Optional but highly recommended!
Method
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
Wash and slice the potatoes thinly, about ⅛ inch.
Whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, melted butter, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme in a mixing bowl.
Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, pouring half of the cream mixture over them.
Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cream mixture.
Press down gently on the layered potatoes and sprinkle the reserved Parmesan evenly on top.
Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes.
Broil for 2-3 minutes if desired for an extra crispy top.
Let rest for about 10 minutes before serving; garnish with fresh parsley.
