Ingredients
  

  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries no need to thaw if frozen
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water or orange juice for added flavor
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon or orange zest Optional for extra flavor

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water (or orange juice). Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Once boiling, add the cranberries. The mixture will return to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Continue cooking until most of the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat and allow it to cool before serving or refrigerating.

Notes

The sauce will thicken further as it cools. Can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
